5 Self Care Tips for Pain Relief
1. Exercise - If you have stiff muscles or chronic pain, surprisingly, exercise can help. For example, walking briskly while pumping your arms for 20 minutes, can help with arm and shoulder pain. It helps speed up circulation in those areas.
2. Heat - A heating pack is good for relaxing stiff, tense muscles and for easing chronic pain. I use one called Bed Buddy Hot/Cold Packfrom Walgreens. You microwave the bed buddy pack for 90 seconds. Then place on area or pain such as the neck, upper back, arms, etc. A couple times I have used this while lying in bed, only to fall asleep with the heating pack. That’s how relaxing it is. Be careful not to burn yourself!
3. Salon Pas Patch - SALONPAS PAIN RELIEVING PATCH, Tiger Balm
ointment, or any other ointment with Camphor can be used for soothing pain relief. The Salon Pas patch can be worn all day for stiff muscles. Tiger Balm, White Flower Oil, or Woodlock Oil (found in Asian supermarkets or herb stores) can be massaged onto stiff muscles. What these oils do is cool and relax the muscles. You will feel it right away. This blissful feeling will last for about 20 minutes, which is great for helping you relax before bed.
4. Self Massage - You can massage yourself either with your hands or a tool. A really low cost tool is a tennis ball or rubber bouncy ball, which I get free from trade shows. You can roll a ball against the wall with your body to massage your back, back of arms, and glutes. I have now upgraded to a specialized tool called the FENIX Deluxe Self-Care Kit, which I’ll talk about later.
5. Hot Bath – One of the easiest ways to soothe your entire body is to relax in a hot bath. This is a surefire way to soothe all of your stiff muscles and help you relax for bedtime.
